A club that has carried the name of this city since 1912, and that this year takes the Monza FuoriGP stage with something to celebrate

In September Monza turns red. But there is another colour this city has worn for far longer: the red and white of a club that has taken its name since 1912 and has kept generations company in the stands of Via Ragazzi del '99. For the people who live here, Monza is also Saturdays at the ground, children taken to their first match, good seasons and ones best forgotten. Monza FuoriGP opens with the AC Monza presentation, and that isn't a scheduling detail: it's a statement.

This year there's an extra reason to applaud. After relegation last season, the red and whites are back in Serie A: third place in the league and promotion won in the play-offs against Catanzaro, in a two-legged final decided on regular-season position.

This festival isn't a motoring event dropped on top of a city: it's a city telling its own story in the week the world is watching. It's the simplest way to remind visitors — and perhaps residents too — that sport here doesn't begin and end with Formula 1.

Red and white next to Ferrari red: two colours telling the story of the same city.
